Documents to prepare in advance

1
Submit an application to the University

Applying for a student visa requires participation from both you and the University. Once you have submitted an application to an academic program or an ESL program at our English Language Institute, ANU will help you through the rest of the process.

2
Sponsor's Letter

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires that international students be responsible for their debts and expenses. If you are not funding your own education, submit a Sponsor's Letter explaining how your housing, food, clothing, healthcare, tuition, and fees will be met. It may be typed but needs a hand-written signature, written by:

A family memberEmployerSponsor from the U.S. or your countryAnyone supporting your stay
3
Passport

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay in the United States.

4
U.S. Department of State forms

After your Sponsor's Letter is received and you are admitted, ANU will send your SEVIS ID and School ID to apply for the DS-160 form. Once you receive your visa interview appointment confirmation, ANU will send you Form I-20.

When your I-20 is issued, register and pay for the Certificate of Eligibility of Non-Immigrant Status (SEVIS form I-901) at fmjfee.com.

Your visa status

F-1

Student visa for academic degree programs.

M-1

Remember: as a student with an F-1 or M-1 visa, you are not allowed to work in the U.S. without permission from the Immigration Department.
