ANU Disability Services

Equality of access for students with disabilities — with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

Reasonable accommodations

To ensure equality of access for students with disabilities, American National University is willing to provide reasonable accommodations, including modifications to:

Courses & programs

Modifications to the courses and programs you are enrolled in.

Services & activities

Modifications to university services and student activities.

Facilities

Modifications to university facilities where applicable.

Accommodations must specifically address the functional limitations of the disability.

When exceptions apply

Exceptions will be made in situations where the accommodation would:

Fundamentally alter the program

Change the essential nature of the program being taught.

Cause undue hardship

Place an undue hardship on the school.

Jeopardize health or safety

Put the health or safety of others at risk.

Accredited programs

Essential competencies cannot be waived

While alternative competencies may be provided for certain disciplines, competencies essential to accredited programs or specific skill requirements necessary for an essential academic and/or career function cannot be waived.

To do so would negate the validity of the specific degree or accredited program, or endanger the accreditation for the academic program and the resulting degrees issued to all graduates in the program.
